Opera in Concert at the Alamo Drafthouse – Interview and a Movie
Season 8 of AIR Time presented by AIR (Arts Incubator of Richardson) kicks off on September 20 at the Alamo Drafthouse in Richardson as moderator David Fisher (Asst. Dir., Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs) interviews Heather Ross, General Director, and Edward Crafts, Artistic Director of Opera in Concert—a program that supports young singers and creates professional performance opportunities for singers in the Dallas area. Besides presenting seldom-heard operatic masterpieces, Opera in Concert also hosts an intensive study program in Italy, the birthplace of opera.
This special Season 8 opener for AIR Time is in partnership with the Richardson Reads One Book program where the focus is on encouraging an entire community to read the same book then come together to discuss it, share ideas and experience a presentation by the author. This year’s selection is Sing for Your Life: A Story of Race, Music and Family by Daniel Bergner. This work of nonfiction centers on the tortured childhood of Ryan Speedo Green, a young African-American youth who faced many challenges. However, his salvation was found in the caring of one very special teacher who led him to one incredible audition with The Metropolitan Opera. The hit movie selection exemplifies the passion of opera patrons, FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS, from 2016 (1hr 51 min) starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant.
